January 1st - January 27th

:pencil:Welcome to Poetry Days:pencil:</b>

January is such a joyous month.  Not only do we have a new year to look forward to, but an entire month of cool winter weather that keeps us indoors doing the hobbies we love the most.  Which is artwork, of course!

:w00t:

According to the TPG Calendar of Days, January is poetry month!  Poetry month is the time TPG Admins choose 3 special poems for our members to illustrate.  Members can choose one of the three poems to do artwork from, and submit to the competition.

For Poetry month, TPG has selected the following three poems:

"There Was A Crooked Man" by Anonymous
"Foreign Lands" by Robert Louis Stevenson
"El Dorado" by Edgar Allan Poe"

Competition ends January 27th.  Good luck to all of you!

December 1st - December 27

:snowflake:Welcome to Winter Days:snowflake:

And so we come to the end of a year.  But this is no time to be sad!  According to the TPG Calendar of Days, the month of December is "Winter Days"!!!

Now, we here at The-Pink-Giraffe are certain we need not remind our members of how important the month of December is, especially to a child.  Everyone knows winter is all about good cheer and making memories. So let us celebrate December in our own way, by creating "Your Personal Winter-Wonderland!".

"Your Personal Winter Wonderland" can be any place you desire to be, doing anything you wish to be doing during the winter season.  Whether it's building a snowman, skiing, sitting in front of a nice warm fireplace with a book and a cup of hot chocolate, or even out on a sandy beach somewhere away from the snow.  It's your choice, and TPG cannot wait to see what all you guys come up with!

Good luck to all of you!

November 1st - November 26th 2009

:floating:Welcome to Myth Days!:floating:

Tis November, and according to the TPG Calendar of Days, November is "Myth Days"!  Everyone collect your pencils, get out your paper and a book on mythology, because this month's competition is "Pegasus"!

Read on for inspirational material.

Pegasus is the winged horse from Greek mythology.  According to the myth, after Perseus slayed Medusa, the blood from her body mingled with the earth and produced this wonderous creature.  It is said that where his hoof strikes the earth, a spring bursts forth.

The young warrior, Bellerophon, was the first to ride Pegasus, who aided him in many battles, one being the famed conquest against a vicious chimera.  Bellerophon was thereby considered unconquerable, as he and his steed proved to be victorious in all the battles that they fought together.  Pegasus wore a golden bridle, (given to Bellerohpon by Minerva), which bound the mythical beast to the warrior.

But Pegasus and Bellerophon parted.  Bellerophon became prideful after so many victories,  and upon angering the Gods with his arrogence, he attempted to fly into heaven mounted on Pegasus' back, but failed.  To hinder the winged horse, Jupiter sent a gadfly, which stung the beast and made him throw his rider to the earth.  Due to the fall, Bellerophon became blind and lame.

TPG - Themes

:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:TPG THEMES:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:

Welcome to our themes section!

Here at The Pink Giraffe, we celebrate every month with not only a competition, but a theme.  Every theme will be based on the TPG Calendar's Subject, which changes per month.  The theme will last from the first day of the month, to the last.  Themes are a source for inventive artists to find quick ideas for their inspirations. ;)

:bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink:

This month's theme is "Expression".

Poetry is a form of expressing oneself, as is art.  Since January is Poetry Days, we want our members to show their love for this art form by drawing a picture based on a single expression, such as happiness, sadness, joy, honor, love, etc.  If you wish, you can even add a little poem of your own to the drawing to give it more feeling.

This month's theme ends on the 31st of January.

:bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink::bulletpink:
THEME ENDED:bulletred:
This month's theme is "Snowflakes"

Show your love for these tiny, drifting particles of Winter joy by drawing a picture featuring them!   A lovely drawing of snowy days or nights is the perfect way to welcome the season.  :holly:

This month's theme will end December 31st.

We are taking all drawings with a magical theme this month!  Bring on your wizards and witches, the more fantastical, the better!  Magical creatures, magical beings, anything you wish.

This months theme will end November 30th.

It's the time of year for trees, new buds are beginning to open, new foliage has sprung to life on old branches and seeds have just begun to breach the surface!

it's a good time to look around at all the different types of trees and take in how unusual some of them actually are, you'll be amazed.

This theme is all about weird trees, short ones, fat ones, tall ones, willowy ones, bare ones, anything! The crazier the better, shoot out a picture of the oddest looking tree your mind can envision and send it to us! We can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

Note the picture can have more than just a tree in it, but the tree has to be the main focal point.

Cheers!

Theme ends May 1'st.

Halloween!

This theme is easy, create whatever dismal, gruesome, haunting, spooky or ghoulish display you can think of in your own style and send it to us to feature here.

These entry's will not be judged nor will they win any prizes, but they will be listed in the theme archives for all time, and featured in our gallery for our viewers to enjoy.

We can't wait to see everything you have to offer to our new themes, we know it'll be fun for everyone, so have a great time and of course, ask us anything. ;)

This theme ends of course on Halloween. [Boogie!]

Theme has been extended to Nov 1'st.

TPG and all of its members would love to thank Cmac13 for gifting us a free 1 Year Subscription! :clap:

We are a purely DA based club featuring the best children's illustration you will find anywhere.
Please take a stroll through our galleries if you are a newcomer and enjoy the many submissions awaiting your express perusal.

:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:How can I become a member?:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:

The-Pink-Giraffe is an invitation only club, meaning we browse the database here to find people we determine are qualified style-wise and personally send them a letter of invitation to be accepted or refused upon their own terms.

However if you are interested in joining and have children's artwork showcased in your own gallery you may post a message here and we will check to see if you fill the requirements for membership.

Don't be too upset if you are refused membership as this is a strictly single-subject (one category) club and we tend to be picky with what does and does not appeal to us visually.

:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:Children's Illustration Definition/Guidelines:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:

Rating: All Deviations must be suitable for children. This doesn't mean only cute and fuzzy bunnies; slightly macabre works are fine just as long as there is no sexual reference, nudity, extreme violence, blood or gore.

Style: We are not accepting anime, manga, or any original art drawn in similar styles. (Also, anything 'anthro' will be closely scrutinized to determine it's suitability.)

Medium: This club is for artists who work with traditional mediums only. Pencils, colored pencils, pen and ink, paint, pastels, crayon, etc. (Even unusual medium such as coffee, tea, mud, etc.) We will not at this time consider photographs, digital art, photo manipulation, etc.

However, we do allow digital programs to be used for touch-up, resizing, water-marking and tinting ONLY.  Digital paintings or artwork completely rendered digitally are not acceptable.

Originality: Only original works can be submitted to the gallery. This means no fan art, not even from books. However, the contests will all be themed from children's books, which gives everyone the chance to illustrate a favorite story. The specific rules for this will be posted on every contest for reference.

Exceptions to the above rule are: Poetry, Songs, Operas, Myths and Legends, FairyTale's, Nursery Rhymes, and Bible Stories.

Quality: We don't ask for perfection, but we do ask that every deviation submitted be a finished piece. No scribbles or hastily filled in works, please take the time to clean it up and scan it correctly.

Expectations: We would like this site to differ slightly from other children's clubs/sites. Think of it as a small pub or tavern where artists gather to share art. The walls are hung with your submissions. What we would love to see is children's illustration from unusual categories; surrealism, light macabre and horror, abstract, fantasy and science fiction, as well as the traditional categories. (still life, animals, etc.)

We will try to set a good example through our own art and the artists we personally invite, so that any prospective members can easily see what we visualize when we think of the Pink Giraffe.

:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:Monthly Contest:bulletpurple::bulletpink::bulletpurple:

Every month we hold a special contest in which our members can express themselves with already popular themes.  The themes will be chosen by the administrators according to the TPG Calendar of Days and be the one exception to the rule on fan-art.

Every contest will start on the (1'st) of the month. Submissions will be taken from the (1'st) of the beginning month, and will continue until the initial end date, which may vary depending on how many days are in the month.  Voting will be held from the end date to the end of the month (28'th, 29'th, 30 or 31'st, depending).  NOTE: Halloween is the only exception to this rule.  In October of every year, voting will end on the 30th, so that staff and members can celebrate on the 31st.

The winner will be announced at the first of the month the following day.

The winning picture will receive the honored position of featured club deviation for a month!

TPG - Voting

9 min read
:bulletpink:VOTING IS OPEN!!!:bulletpink:

Welcome again members and fans of TPG, it's here at last, that final and nerve-wracking segment of the competition during which you will decide who gets the title of first place!

As promised, here are the rules/guidelines for the voting process as it is done here at TPG.

:bulletpurple:1.:bulletpurple: Everyone can vote, be they member, watcher or a snail stuck to a vine somewhere, it's our member's right to compete but everyone has the right to vote for their favorite submission. ;)

:bulletpurple:2.:bulletpurple: Contestants Cannot vote for themselves, this basic rule keeps the competition fair and the odds of winning as they should be.  Contestants can, however, vote on another contestants work if they believe the deviation deserves to win.  All contestants can choose not to vote if they wish.

:bulletpurple:3.:bulletpurple: We agreed earlier during the month that we would allow the staff to submit to competitions.  However, staff are not allowed to vote, even on another's work.  The reasons being that staff have a tendency to be spotlighted in many clubs, therefore if they win it will have to be on merit, not because they are staff.
We also agreed on this because, though we love to join in the fun, we mainly do it for the joy of the moment, not for the prize.

:bulletpurple:4.:bulletpurple: To vote you must Send Us A Note with the entry you are voting for.  The entry can be identified by it's title or link, it doesn't matter what it looks like so long as we can tell which deviation you're voting for.

To insert a link ---> copy and past the URL of the deviation into your post, it will show up as a link.
Or, you can get fancy with it and type <href="?">I Vote For This Deviation  (Replace the question mark with the url of the deviation, and write anything you wish as the link reference.) Then close with this tag ---> <*/a> (remove the star to make it work)

:bulletpurple:5.:bulletpurple: Final rule, you may only vote ONCE. No multiples please.

:bulletpurple:6.:bulletpurple: Not really a rule, but a suggestion.  If you wish tell your friends about the competition by entering it in your journals, signatures or posts, let them know you're competing and give them the link to check it out.

This helps get the word around that anyone can vote and might even persuade a few new artists to try a little children's illustration of their own just for fun. :)

Happy voting, and good luck contestants!

IMPORTANT - If you cannot see an image try clicking it's full view.  If the problem persists please contact us asap and we will work with you to get everything running correctly.
